" Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America, those of us in Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky will no longer be referred to as, "Hillbillies". You must now refer to us as "Appalachian-Americans". Thank You. Now, if you'll excuse me, I got sum' possums to fry. "
in thinking about the song i saw mommy (mummy, england) kissing santa claus last night underneath the 'mistletoe', i wonder if daddy would have been laughing if he had saw it?.
sounds a little 'fishey' to me!
outaservice.
I love this song! It was one of the few my mom had as she came into the jws. I remember finding the record and playing it. I guess she enjoyed it too because I got to indulge in it for a while before I gave up Christmas to live forever.
I got a cd from Target that has this on it and the kids love it too! Our 5 yr old asked me on xmas eve before he went to bed if I was gonna kiss Santa under the mistletoe--my quick out-- we don't have mistletoe and I'll probably be asleep when he comes!
Oh and they loved "I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas". Happy Holidays!

i got a couple of lumps of coal and a 2 for 1 mcdonald's dollar menu coupon.
warm and fed...a christmas miracle!!
!
1st gift--from God. No JWs knocking at door to see if they could ruin our 1st christmas!!!! lol
I am hard to shop for. We went to a huge mall a few weeks ago and hubby had me look around. I picked out a beautiful set of new silverware. Its good stuff. Heavy. I believe you could use it as a weapon! lol! A necklace and earrings (cz set in sterling silver- The look of diamonds without the price!)
The kids picked out their own gifts for everyone. Our 7 year old daughter gave me some super soft chenille slipper socks. Warm and cozy--wore them all day. Our 5 year old gave me a new Bill Engvall CD. I love his comedy and always borrowed my dad's copies for long trips with the kids. Now that we moved, I need my own! YEA!
My dad sent money, so did one grandma. The other grandma sent a christmas decorating/cooking hardcover book and a glass torch lamp with hummingbirds painted on it (we discussed them visiting our feeders this past summer even though we were hundreds of miles apart we had a common thing to discuss happening). Oh and she also sent some musical lights that I strung over the kitchen counters, a snowman stocking that giggles and 3 lace panels that hang on the wall with the 12 days of christmas. Now I know what they are so the kids and I could sing it! I was really suprised with how she went all out on us all. I guess she's super happy we're celebrating. My dad is her only child (he was never a jw) and she only has 2 grandchildren. So this is the first for her since we were little. And she even spoiled the kids and hubby! She was so excited she bought for the other great-grandkids and is holding their presents until later so she can have a little party with them. She asked " What do call a winter party?" So she could celebrate SOMETHING with them.
hello everyone, and "merry christmas!!".
was wanting to go see this movie, and was wondering if any of you have already seen it and what you thought of it??.
sincerely,.
Hi Lady Liberty! Yes, we went and saw it. I think it was nice in that it made you more aware of some of the hardships that Mary and Joseph faced, like on their trip to register. I was extremely disappointed in how they represented the angels appearing to Mary and Josephs dream. They left out some faith strengthening biblical scenes. There are no angels singing when the sheperds are told about the birth. Major miss there. The 10 Commandments with Charlton Heston parted the Red Sea, I think these directors would have made it appear like an ankle deep mud puddle to pass through! But it did have interesting views into the personal lives of the individuals. The magi's decision to go and see, Mary's mother and fathers reaction to her pregnancy. Things I never really thought about. Made me think of the faith Mary had to have to do God's will when her parents were in the dark to it. I would go. The scenery is best on the big screen, but they sure left out some beautiful points of scripture. Enjoy!

P.S. We took our 5 and 7 year old to it and they stayed interested enough, though we had to cover their eyes at times. It's one thing to read about in the bible and another to see something violent acted out (like the fear and cries of the families as the babies are taken to be killed). If you take any little ones, your mom instinct of whats coming next in the story will guide you!
the past couple of days, i've been posting a lot about how disappointed and even disgusted i am with god and how he runs his universe.
i guess that probably offends some people.
i don't intend to make people feel bad, but here's what's been going on in my life lately:.
Hello Friend. I LIKE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! (((abandoned)))
I can't say I have walked in your shoes, because I haven't. But I've walked on the financial crisis path. There are times it gets to the point for awhile where you feel it would be better to be dead. The bill collectors start to harrass you. They call day after day, like Ed McMann just showed up with a million dollar check at your door and your circumstances to pay have magically appeared. I remember telling one, look, I'm already behind on my mortgage and I'm just trying to not lose my house and have heat for my babies. (It was cold, -20 and we only had a kerosene heater and a fireplace in the living room. The temperature in the morning was about 52 inside the house and that was after getting up several times each night to feed the fire and check the heater. A morning track out through the snow to the woodpile and several trips to gather enough wood to dry before I needed to use it. It was hard. And pumping that kerosene into 5 gallon containers in the cold and wind, driving the slippery roads..... well, they say what doesn't kill makes you stronger. The ceiling in the kitchen leaked every time it rained. Had to put out rubbermaid containers to catch it...there's more, but I'll spare you. And now I look back and am proud that I made it.I am also in awe of our ancestors who lived worse than this and felt better off than their ancestors!
Still have bills that need to be settled, but the first year the furnace was fixed, every time it kicked on I realized what a blessing it was that I had taken for granted. Still appreciate that sound. I remember lying in bed back then thinking what do I have to be thankful for. And I thought, well, I have a warm and dry bed. I have enough to feed my family, and I have them. Sometimes just thinking of something worse than what you have to deal with can give you the strength to go on. I thought about the poor homeless who didn't have such luxury. Those in poor nations who would think me a queen to see my carpeting and not dirt floors. I remember a friend saying "You gotta look at the bright side or you'll go insane". He didn't even know what I was going through, but was speaking of his own experiences. He had just been through a lot.
Hang in there. "This too shall pass". This was about 5 years ago. Hubby has a great job. We moved south (NO HARSH WINTER). Kids are healthy and in school. House is comfortable and inviting. Left jws. Celebrated first christmas. Everyones had a birthday party. We are content, peaceful and happy. There is still bill juggling, but I think everyone who isn't obsenely wealthy has those issues. There was a thread on here about 2 weeks ago or so that talked about how some are in debt up to their eyeballs to maintain a way of life that looks like they have it all together. My in-laws are like that. When they are older, I'm afraid we'll have to support them. They have always lived above their means. They look well off. He makes great money, but they are mid 50's and keep re-financing their house and only outright own one old truck and maybe a boat. Everthing else is payments. This has scared me. They will leave us bills when they go. But thats putting the cart before the horse.
I hope hearing that others have had tough times and felt despair help you through. It's a tough spot to be in. I wouldn't wish it on anybody. I will say it helps me think of others more. I'm not one to let people know my problems. My own mother didn't know much neither did my best girlfriend. There is pride and privacy issues that make it hard to share. I love my husband more than anything and never wanted to minimize his sacrifice and all he has always done to put us first. But time and unforseen occurance befall us all. He is still my SuperMan. I am a very fortunate woman to have him. Your posts seem to reveal some beautiful qualities in you as a person. I admire your tenderheartedness and honesty. You seem to be a kind person and I wish the best for you. When you need a boost or validation, just ask. We're here.

yes sir.
"he sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake, he knows if you've been bad or good.." so, chances are he heard our sons threat tonight as we rode home from mcdonalds where santa was walking around seeing the kids.
mind you, i think it was while we were listening to "santa claus is coming to town" he suddenly bursts out, "he better remember me or i'm not gonna believe in him anymore!

I wonder if he's worrying after the fiasco he put me through the other day (I posted it under jokes and humor). Kids. Where do they come up with this stuff! Kitten Whiskers===ho ho ho
there have been a series of subway commercials airing lately with jared (the "lost weight eating sandwiches" subway spokesman) having a "more meat/less fat" argument with this other guy.
the other guy was a total unknown to me.
the commercial left me feeling like he was a somebody to somebody, just not to me.
Hey! Go easy on poor Dave! If you don't remember, Fry was in the sleeping chamber for a thousand years before he woke up! How could he know? Kitten Whiskers P.S. Dave-I had no clue either. Thanks for the info. P.S. Dan the Man- that was hilarious!!!!!
I think it has. I was looking for her too. But, it is christmas and she does have little ones. Hopefully she is just having a great time getting it all ready!!!! We miss you! So glad to see hubby on here on too! Kitten Whiskers
no, not that one, the phone one.
i got a horrid, creepy telemarketing phone call from some guy (apparently-he never got to the alleged purpose of his call) this weekend.
he went on and on, calling me by my first name, asking how my husband was, chatting about this and that, and when i basically said-who are you-why are you calling?
I am so sorry! I in no way meant to criticize you! Please, don't take it that way. I was being a smartallek. There are definitly those times the hair on the back of our necks stand up and we are on high alert! I am so sorry you went through such a traumatizing experience! That must have ruined your day. It is scary. I am glad you checked up on it and made sure it was a legit business!!!! And thank you for the southern "appropriate" terms of endearment! I really hadn't paid that close attention to the differences! I will say the most silver tongued devil I have met so far has been my insurance man!!!!! I guess that's expected-lol! Hugs to you as you come away from this!!! And apologies once again. Kitten Whiskers
